How’s Seth?

Posted in Christianity, Personal crap on 11 May 2009 by rajanr

The name “Seth” is my second-choice (I wanted Zackary/Zachary/Zachariah/et al for the longest time, but then I met Zak Lim, so that would make it awkward), but I think it’s a pretty nifty name. It means “placed/appointed” and he’s the third son of Adam and Eve – I’m the third son too. Another top contender is “Zedekiah” (the Lord my justice), simply because I would have the coolest nick ever – Zed. Compared to nicks ranging to Raj to janjan.

What do you guys think?

P.S. If I tagged you in Facebook, it means that your opinion is most valued. Otherwise, you may still comment, and I shall take it into consideration.

P.P.S. When my best friends can’t pronounce “Rajan”–which is pretty incredulous to me–I sort of have to give in to the whole Christian name bit.

P.P.P.S. Would using Zachariah when I know someone with a similar name be entirely wrong? I mean, it’s my top choice. It means “God has remembered” – though while it was pretty apt some five years ago, its not as much these days.

P.P.P.P.S This is sort of inspired by the fact that I would be living in some place completely different for prolong periods of time for the first time in three years, making the name transition bit easier. So I kinda want to make my mind up now. Plus, I don’t want people to confuse me for Indian and therefore draw me into awkward Hindi or Kannada conversations.

Ooh, gay church

Ou Yang Wen Feng hosted a “church service” in some hotel yesterday here in KL in the presence of his partner of four-and-a-half years. But I guess, when you start throwing out bits and pieces of the Bible that’s not up to your fancy, why stop at homosexuality?

Ou Yang divorced his wife and seeks to be “remarried”. Sure, Jesus condemned divorce (Mark 10:11… granted, it said, “another woman”). But, you bigots, don’t take whatever Jesus says literally.

And if homosexuality is a-okay in the eyes of God, surely living with a man for more than four years might grate on His stance regarding premarital sex (1 Corinthians 7:1-2… granted, again, it says women so only heteros are banned from premarital fun).

Likewise, the grandfather Bishop Parry divorced and “remarried”. Seems like a trend. The father of three, following Biblical parenting principles, is only in contact with one of his sons.

Update: MENJ:

But this incident does tell me a lot of things. On one hand, we have the hypocrisy of the Christians regarding their cherished “human rights” when they shout their outrage at the gay pastor for coming forth with his homosexuality and deny that person’s “human rights”.

Because fundamental to human rights is “freedom from criticism”? Dumbass.

Everyone’s an expert

Apparently, Jesus never said he is God. Zainol decides to cherry picks a bunch of verses and foist upon it his own interpretation, to show Jesus was Allah’s lovely messenger boy to the Hebrews and no one else. Seems to be a tragic problem amongst fundamentalist Muslims – taking well-selected portions of the Bible and giving it a literal meaning.

Like MENJ – thinking the Bible actually calls Him a literal Lamb.

But apparently, according to Zainol, because Jesus said, “I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel… It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs.” (Mat 15:24, 26), therefore it is proven Jesus was messenger, messenger to the Jews.

A bit of the problem there. In the passage, a Canaanite woman came to Jesus to ask healing for her demon-possessed daughter. How did the passage end? Jesus healed the woman’s daughter. If Jesus was truly Allah’s messenger to the Jews, why did he heal the Canaanite girl?

What’s the point of the passage? More after the break.
